Sonoma County Line Retracement Survey

Here's Jake setting a well monument for a lost stake replacement in the centerline of Duhig Road.

Retracing the footsteps of J.T. Kingsbury, Deputy Surveyor General, by authority of William Minnis, Surveyor General of the State of California.  The field notes for the survey were received and filed July 10, 1877 and approved August 13, 1877.

The route of the “J.T. Kingsbury 1877 survey of the county line” runs from the summit of Mount St Helena along the ridgeline dividing Sonoma and Napa counties, to the mouth of the Huichica Creek.  Along the route of approximately 52 miles numerous ties were made together with the setting of 52 iron stakes which were 3’ long, 3” wide and Ύ” thick with an “S” cut with cold chisel on one side and an “N” on the other, and all trees referred to in the survey notes were blazed with three notches cut across the blaze.

Our firm was retained to survey the most southern segment from Hwy 121 to the mouth of Huichica Creek.
